All Invited to Monthly CVCA Meeting
The Crescenta Valley Community Association will have its monthly meeting tonight, Thursday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. The CVCA is a cross-jurisdictional volunteer organization that encourages collaboration between community groups so that the Crescenta Valley can be represented with one voice.
Conceptual plans will be presented regarding the development at the corner of Briggs Avenue and Foothill Boulevard (the site of the La Crescenta Motel).
All are invited to the meeting in the community room of the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd. (entrance off La Crescenta Avenue).

Kases for Kids
The Crescenta Valley Lions Club is partnering with the Los Angeles Dept. of Children Services to help give kids going into foster care a gift of new or gently used suitcase and backpacks. Also needed are toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, mouthwash, tissues, washcloths, shampoo and more. This is so children will bring their belongings in something aside from a trash bag and have a sense of dignity when arriving at a foster home.
Kases for Kids is Saturday, Sept. 28 from 10 a.m. t 2 p.m. at the Ralph’s Marketplace parking lot in the 2600 block of Foothill Boulevard in La Crescenta.

Fire Danger Level Raised
Effective Tuesday, Sept. 24, the U.S. Forest Service raised the fire danger level was raised to “Very High” across the Angeles National Forest. With annual grasses cured, temperatures rising, relative humidity dropping and fire activity across the state increasing, fire management officials have decided to raise the fire danger level. Elevating the fire danger enhances public awareness that wildfire probability increases as temperatures rise and brush dries out. Despite the change, there are no new campfire restrictions.
Planting Milkweed in Your Garden
A tour of the Rosemont Preserve with the “Guerilla Gardener” Roger Klemm takes place on Saturday morning, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Klemm is a native plant expert who is passionate about restoring native habitat. He will describe the native plants at the Preserve and explain how to include more native plants in residents’ gardens. He will be demonstrating how to plant milkweed to encourage butterflies to visit. Each participant will be given a pot planted with milkweed seeds to take home.
This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages, no reservations required. Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.
The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. in La Crescenta. Those who have mobility issues can require a closer parking spot. Please wear sturdy shoes to walk the trail.

Sagebrush Territory Transfer Petition to be Heard
The County Committee plans to hear the Sagebrush petition at its Oct. 2 meeting. A vote on the transfer is expected.
The petition will be heard in the County Committee offices at 9300 Imperial Highway in Downey.
YWCA Glendale Holds Inaugural Purple Tie Awards
YWCA Glendale and the Glendale Commission on the Status of Women presents the Candlelight Vigil and Purple Tie Awards for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Candlelight Vigil honors those who have lost their lives to domestic violence while the inaugural Purple Tie Awards highlight men in the community who work to support domestic violence survivors and toward the elimination of violence against women and families in Glendale. YWCA Glendale recognizes that domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking are not just women’s issues, but rather they are community issues that must be addressed with the involvement of men and boys.
The event is tonight, Oct. 3, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at YWCA Glendale, 735 E Lexington Drive in Glendale.

October Book Sale
The Friends of La Crescenta Library will be holding it October Book Sale in the meeting room at the La Crescenta Library. Many pre-read books need good homes and they’re available at next to nothing prices.
A “members only” presale takes place on Friday, Oct. 4 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. (may join at the door) and the public is invited on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Find a great deal and support the library at the same time.

New Student Ex Officio Members Sought for CSW
The City of Glendale Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is seeking two new student ex officio members to serve on the CSW for one year (Nov. 2019 – Oct. 2020). The CSW is composed of seven volunteer members; five are appointed by the Glendale City Council and two student ex officio members who are appointed by the current commissioners.
The Commission is looking for students who are high school juniors or above attending an institution of higher learning and/or live in Glendale, are dedicated to the Glendale community, are passionate about helping people and are interested in women’s issues.
The Commission meets on the second Monday of each quarter at 5:30 p.m. (February, May, August, November) at Glendale City Hall.
