Back To School Night

Crescenta Valley High School back to school night is tonight, Thursday night, Aug. 29. Come out for the Prom Plus BBQ starting at 4:45 p.m. in the quad. Band and dance programs will perform. The official kick-off will occur at 5:45 p.m. with AFJROTC presenting colors and Charismatics singing the national anthem.

Traffic will be heavy around the high school during this time.

 

 

CHP to Conduct Sobriety/Driver License Checkpoint

The Altadena area office of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will conduct a sobriety/driver license checkpoint on Friday, Aug. 30 within the unincorporated area of Altadena.

The goal of the CHP is to ensure the highest level of safety, service and security to the people of California. Sobriety/driver license checkpoints are proven effective tools for accomplishing this goal and are designed to augment existing patrols.

The California Highway Patrol will be diligently looking for DUI drivers, whether under the influence of drugs and or alcohol. The objective is to send a clear message to those individuals considering mixing alcohol or drugs and/or who drive when unlicensed.

The sobriety/driver license checkpoint will be operated from
6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

 

 

CV Weekly Closed for Holiday

In observance of Labor Day, the offices of the Crescenta Valley Weekly will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2.

 

 

LUC Meeting

The next meeting of the Land Use Committee of the CV Town Council will be on Sept. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd.

A Los Angeles County Public Works/ Regional Planning representative
will make a presentation about the Interim & Supportive Housing, Inclusionary Housing, By-Right and Affordable Housing Preservation ordinances.

 

 

California Native Plant Landscape Transformation Class

Foothill Municipal Water District (FMWD) is hosting a California Friendly and Native Plant Landscaping Class on Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to noon at the La Cañada Presbyterian Church, 626 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada Flintridge. Attendees will learn a hands-on approach to converting their yard into climate-appropriate and low-water-use landscapes through principles of watershed designs. This class will cover California native plants selection, building a healthy living soil sponge, holding rainwater within the property, and controlling irrigation systems.

FMWD provides imported water to Crescenta Valley Water District, La Cañada Irrigation District, Liberty Utilities, Valley Water Company, Lincoln Avenue Water Company, Las Flores Water Company and Rubio Cañon Land & Water Association. Kinneloa Irrigation District, another retail agency, takes no water from Foothill.
