Beginning with the 2019-20 school year, Glendale Community College and Glendale Unified School District are partnering to offer Early College Academy (ECA). Students who participate in the ECA can complete up to two years of college for free before graduating from high school.
College courses will be available to students in ECA beginning in 10th grade. Courses will be taught by GCC professors and held at Hoover High School during the school day. The program is open to all GUSD students.
Students wishing to enroll in the ECA whose resident school is not Hoover can obtain an intra-district permit and transfer to Hoover.
Spaces in the ECA are limited and an application is required. Hoover High School ninth grade students will have priority for the ECA, but current ninth grade students from GUSD and other districts are encouraged to apply. As Hoover students will always have priority, current eighth grade students who are interested in participating in the ECA are encouraged to enroll at Hoover beginning in ninth grade.
For more information and a program application, visit www.glendale.edu/EarlyCollege or call (818) 240-1000 ext.4767 (GCC) or (818) 241-3111, ext. 2100 (GUSD). An ECA representative will also be available to speak with interested students and families during Hoover High School’s open house on Feb. 28, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
“Early College Academy gives students the opportunity to finish up to two years of college upon high school graduation, for free, within their high school schedule,” said Meg Chil-Gevorkyan, interim program manager, GCC Student Outreach Services.
“We are thrilled about this partnership with GCC which allows our students the opportunity to get a head start on earning a college degree,” added Dr. Kelly King, GUSD interim superintendent of Schools.
