Free Screening Of “RBG” Documentary at GCC
Glendale Community College Social Sciences Division is presenting a free screening of the documentary “RBG” on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium.
“RBG” is a documentary exploring the life and career of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It is directed by Julie Cohen and Betsy West.

First Lecture of the Season
Leaves are falling, autumn is calling and the first City of Glendale Trails and Open Space lecture of the season takes place on Friday, Oct. 5 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Deukmejian Wilderness Park.
Roger Klemm will present “California Native Plants – What’s in Your Backyard?” He will share his love of local flora and talk about landscaping with native plants.
This event is free but reservations are necessary (818) 548-3795 since seating is limited. Sign up early as this program is popular.
This program is recommended for ages 16 and older.
Montrose Oktoberfest on Saturday
The community is invited to the annual Oktoberfest celebration in Montrose on Saturday, Oct. 6 from noon to 10 p.m. in the 2200-2400 blocks of Honolulu Avenue. Live music will be performed, German food and beverages and tickets for family-friendly games will be available for purchase. Contests, too.
Organized by the Montrose Verdugo Chamber of Commerce.

Rosemont Preserve Open Gate Morning
All are invited for the first of two monthly “open gates” at the Rosemont Preserve. It takes place on Sunday, Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. This is a chance to visit the Preserve and wander the trail, enjoying the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty. Photographers, bring your camera to capture the early morning light and citizen scientists, bring your iNaturalist app.
Friends of the Rosemont Preserve Committee members will be available to answer questions.
This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages; no reservations required. Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park (5107 Rosemont Ave., La Crescenta). Please wear sturdy shoes to walk the trail.
GWP Utility Day 2018
The public is invited to the Glendale Water and Power Utility Day on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. There will be tours of the plant and facilities at 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. plus free food and refreshments (while supplies last), rides in the utility bucket truck and more.
The GWP event takes place at 800 Air Way in Glendale. Free parking available on Flower Street; free admission.
Public Forum Planned On Domestic Violence
YWCA Glendale, the City of Glendale Commission on the Status of Women, and the Office of Assemblymember Laura Friedman will host “Together We Can Break the Silence: Domestic Violence Awareness Month Community Forum and Candle Lighting Ceremony” on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Glendale Central Library. Free and open to the public, event panelists and attendees will discuss issues of violence in the community, including how to help those affected and preventing further violence.
