Twenty-six cadets from the Glendale Community College Verdugo Fire Academy graduated on Saturday after completing over 900 hours of the California State Fire Training Curriculum. Basic firefighting, rescue, vehicle extrication, rescue systems and firefighter safety and survival were some of the skills learned.

Several cadets already have firefighter jobs waiting for them as they have completed training.

“We are very proud of the cadets and what they have been through,” stated Fire Chief Sam DiGiovanna. “It certainly is very demanding both mentally and physically.”

He added that the support of Glendale Fire Department as the sponsoring agency was much appreciated.
