I hope everyone took the opportunity to spend time with their community and got to know local law enforcement at National Night Out on Tuesday. At the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station there were even free hotdogs, chips and balloons for the kids!
On Monday, July 29, Councilmember Donna Libra attended the Crescenta Valley Fire Safe Council meeting at Rosemont Middle School. Nearly 300 people, including representatives from the LA County Fire, U.S. Forestry, LASD, public works and the office of Supervisor Kathryn Barger, were in attendance.
Finally, the traffic noise study report has been completed, prepared by Caltrans in accordance with federal regulation and California Street and Highway Code. This report is based on existing worst-hour noise levels along Interstate 210 Freeway in the unincorporated areas of the Los Angeles County known as La Crescenta and Montrose, from Pennsylvania Avenue to Waltonia Drive. This project would construct 15 sound barriers along the 210 from Post Mile (PM) 16.77 (Pennsylvania Avenue overcrossing) to PM 18.77 (500 ft. west of the SR-2 Interchange). All the sound barriers would be located within the Caltrans Right of Way. The area of concern has been currently identified under the Metro’s Post 1989 Retrofit Sound wall Projects Phase II. This project will be funded by Los Angeles County Dept. of Public Works.
On July 31, I was honored to acknowledge Lt. Mark Slater for his 33 years of service to the Los Angeles Sheriff Dept. We wish him a wonderful time with his family. Happy retirement, Lt. Slater!
With the summer in full swing, there are lots of great opportunities for fun in the sun, so put on your swimsuit and head to the beach! Thanks to our supervisor, Kathryn Barger, for providing us with the beach bus to relax this month and get away from the excessive heat.
Please attend bingo night at Healy Hall at Holy Redeemer Church on Aug. 16 in support of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion posts.
But the day before bingo, we look forward to your joining the council at our regularly scheduled meeting held the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the community room of the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd. We next meet on Aug. 15.
In the meantime, avoid the heat and stay cool! Happy return to school!
Harry Leon, President
Crescenta Valley Town Council
