News from CV Alliance

Hi, CV!

Goodbye 2014! Here are some highlights:

1) Youth involvement grew from one student on our board to a noontime club at CV High. Representing the youth sector on our board are Tara Asadoorian and Makayla Rabago. Gor Zalyan and Abbe Sheklow joined them at a national leadership conference in Orlando, Florida to learn about how our grant promotes prevention of underage drug and alcohol use in Crescenta Valley and how to organize effective activities and campaigns. They sponsored a bowling party, an ugly sweater party, and developed the billboard reminding young people that driving under the influence means you’ll lose your license. They rock!

2) Parental involvement continues to grow. The feedback we receive and the increasing number of “frequent flyers” that attend these programs remind us we’re responding to community needs, providing information and enhancing skills. Parent Sessions begin on Tuesday, Jan. 20 and will run through April, but not during spring break. Teen Trials run from January through April on the fourth Thursday of each month. All programs will start at 7 p.m. and run until 8:30 p.m. To increase access for those who cannot make these night time programs, we hope you consider us when making your resolution to exercise and Walk & Talk with us. We meet Wednesday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at CV Park. We have a good core group waiting for you to join them.

All of these programs are free and open to the public. Look for flyers soon for all of these programs.

3) CV Alliance is on a good path, and we credit our success to you. If you read my column, check out our website, follow us on social media, and/or are on our distribution list, you know we have amazing partners who donate resources and expertise willingly and well. Special shout-outs go to the CV Chamber for our space, my board(s) for their knowledge, commitment, and support, and to other groups who welcome us.

Finally, I want to give special thanks to Julia Rabago, my partner in CV Alliance. Julia cares about kids; I care about adults. Together, we’ve got you covered!
