The CVHS Falcons turbulent but triumphant softball regular season came to a close last Thursday with a loss to Arcadia that gave the Apaches the Pacific League title and made the CVHS the first runner up.

The Senior Day matchup was technically a regular season game but with both teams tied in the standings, it served as the de facto championship game.

A raucous crowd of parents, siblings and classmates packed both sides of the stands at CVHS, bringing signs and flowers to show support for the incredible Falcon squad.

CVHS started strong. Despite allowing two runs in the first inning, they answered with three runs of their own. But Arcadia was relentless, scoring two runs in every inning for the first five innings of the game. CVHS simply couldn’t keep up. A two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh provided some hope of a possible CVHS comeback, but it wasn’t to be. The Apaches won the game and the League with a final score of 11-6.

With double digit win totals, both squads have earned a trip to the postseason. CVHS will kick off its CIF-Southern Section campaign today when they travel to Long Beach to take on the Millikan Rams in what should be an excellent game. CVHS and Millikan have identical 18-10 overall records and are ranked within seven spots of each other in both the State of California and the CIF Southern Section, according to MaxPreps.

In related news, the CVHS girls’ lacrosse team and boys’ baseball team will both play their first CIF-SS tournament game today at 3:15 p.m. Girls lacrosse will host Anaheim’s Canyon High School at CVHS. The boys’ baseball team will travel to West Covina to take on the South Hills Huskies. Falcon boys’ lacrosse played its first CIF-SS tournament match yesterday against Canyon High School. A final score was not available at press time.
