Update on CVHS Alum Smiley

Jimmy Smiley, a 2015 Crescenta Valley High graduate, is finding success on the mound at the University of Columbia. Smiley threw scoreless 11th and 12th innings in the Lions’ second win of the season in Jacksonville against North Florida University. Before giving up some runs in recent outings, he was unscored upon in his first five appearances. His Ivy League debut was against Cornell, and he retired his only batter.

In non-league action, Smiley also pitched a scoreless inning in a win over the Miami Hurricanes and in his NCAA Division I debut he pitched two scoreless frames against the Oklahoma Sooners.

Smiley is currently 1-0 in seven appearances, with a 4.82 earned-run average, with four strikeouts and two walks.

He was a two-letter varsity winner in baseball and basketball while at Crescenta Valley High. He transferred to Columbia from Whitman College where he started 2018 with a record of 5-1. He garnered ALL Northwest Conference honorable mention last season, and made the conference All-Academic Team.

Smiley graduated in three years from Whitman with a degree in physics. He is currently studying engineering at Columbia.
