On Saturday, March 26 the CV track team participated in the Mustang Relays held in Manhattan Beach at Mira Costa High School. The competition was extremely keen and the Falcons rose to the occasion.
Many of the runners joined together, running events in a relay that they normally do not run. Senior Andrew Roide took a lead for the team and jumped (6-4) to win first place. The Falcon boys distance medley varsity won first place (10:48.25). The boys 4x1600m relay took third (19:15.19); junior Josh Strachewski took a third in the 300 hurdles (41.64) with senior Claudia Pham winning place in the 1600m open race (5:27.32).
Returning to the track after an injury, senior Jessica Beerman took second place in the girls 100m dash (12.80).
The CV girls placed second in a very competitive in the distance medley (12.39.85) behind the CIF girls from Mira Costa (12:33.38).
The girls 4×100 meter relay took third place, and won second in the 4x200m relay (1.49:44). The Falcon girls also won second in the 4x1600m relay (22:08.63) and 4×400 relay took third (4:13.53).
“Mustang Relays went very well. Josh was also third overall in the 110HH in a personal best 15.57. He is really running well,” said Coach Mark Evans. “This is always a fun meet and we held our own against some very good teams. We are very excited with our success at the Mustang Relays.”
