Notes & Nods

LCIF News

A Mother’s Day tradition will continue at Lutheran Church in the Foothills on Sunday, May 8 with motherhood being celebrated in song and stories. Pastor Chuck Bunnell will lead the service, which begins at 10 a.m. in person and live-streamed on LCIF’s YouTube channel.

The church is also encouraging early registration for its vacation bible school. After a two-year pause due to COVID, LCIF brings back VBS the week of June 27 to July 1. All children in preschool through sixth grade are invited to attend. This year’s theme is “Rocky Railway,” a faith-filled adventure where kids discover that trusting Jesus pulls them through life’s ups and downs. The program runs from 9 a.m. until noon. Each day, the session ends with a song and dance performance by the children for family and friends to enjoy. Discounts are offered to families who register early.

Also, a reminder that quilting and knitting groups meet weekly. Newcomers are welcome! For those interested in technical production, volunteers are welcome to be trained on the church’s live-stream broadcast system. They will be taught how to operate cameras, graphics and the switchboard.

Pastor Bunnell’s lecture series continues on Sunday mornings from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. in the church’s conference room. No prior knowledge of the Bible is necessary.

Visit lcifoothills.org for event details, including small group gatherings and opportunities to serve. Walk and Word

In May, Walk and Word participants will meet in the parking lot of Deukmejian Wilderness Park, 3429 Markridge Road in La Crescenta/Glendale at 8 a.m. on May 8, 15, 22 & 29. They will walk for the first hour and then gather to read a selection of Scripture. About a half hour will be spent journaling about what was read and then there will be conversation, sharing thoughts.

Participants are asked to bring something to write with, anything wanted to eat or drink, and a chair to use for the writing part of the morning. Because people will be outdoors and social distancing will be practiced, masks will be optional.

Those with questions can email Jeanne at jnlavieri@earthlink.net.

All are welcome. If the hike is too strenuous, there are level paths at the park. There are ramps from the parking lot to the field where the group gathers after the hike.
