Cody, a beloved senior golden retriever lab, passed away peacefully at home in Tujunga on Thursday, May 30, with his family by his side.
Born from the puppy boom of stray dogs after Hurricane Katrina, Cody, among numerous others, was sent to Southern California on behalf of an animal rescue organization in Louisiana trying to move pets out of the devastation. He arrived on a cargo flight full of rescue animals in December 2005. Cody spent his youthful years snuggling with loved ones, playing chase and fetch, running at CV Park, dining around Montrose, howling song tunes, swimming laps in the family pool, napping in the sun and vacationing in Big Bear. He indulged in hamburgers and kisses. He never met a squirrel he didn’t want to chase.
Cody spent time in Newport Beach but, in 2016, he followed his heart home to Tujunga. His grandparents embraced Cody as their own during his final years. With grandpa, Cody spent his mornings at Deukmejian Wilderness Park and afternoons fixing this and that, jumping at the opportunity to hop in the car and run errands around town. Once a week, he enjoyed Monday night dinner at Aunt Lori’s. He was baby, big brother, grandchild, partner, best friend, counterpart. Not a dog, but a soul. He gave support beyond words and love beyond life.
Cody is survived by his grandparents Jim and Donna Goldsworthy; mom and dad, Jamie and Jason Arrow; brother Jack Arrow; cousins Harper and Sawyer Goldsworthy; and countless others who made his tail wag when near.
At the wishes of Cody’s family, please show your dog a little extra love and spoil him with treats.
