Holiday Time

Isn’t this a great time of year? We kicked off the holiday season with “Plaid” Friday on Nov. 29 and this past Saturday we saw Santa fly overhead to begin the Montrose Christmas Parade! My team and I were fortunate to be in a stakebed truck generously donated by Bob Smith Toyota and as we traveled down Honolulu Avenue we were greeted by supporters of the paper. I am always humbled by those who head to Montrose for the Christmas parade and take the time to shout out words of encouragement to us on the CV Weekly “float.” It means so much.

This year we had a special guest too: former Glendale mayor Paula Devine rode with us down Honolulu Avenue! What a treat!

I had time to stop over at Town Kitchen & Grill prior to the parade and attend the pre-parade festivities. Special thanks to Jim Collins and his crew over there who made the reception extra special.

I don’t know about you but I’m not nearly done with my holiday shopping (ugh!) so I plan on stopping by the Montrose Shopping Park to pick up a few things. Who knows? I may board the horse-drawn trolley or even see Santa (both available on weekends until Christmas).

And I look forward to seeing all the decorated houses for the holidays. As in years past, CV Weekly is accepting the addresses of those houses whose owners go beyond in creating the holiday spirit. (Note that we do not accept addresses that are not from the homeowner.) From those addresses we create the Merry & Bright Holiday Light & Display Tour. There are even prizes given to the best decorated in a variety of categories!

To learn more, visit page 14 of this week’s paper – and hurry; time is running out to have your address included!

Many thanks are extended to those who showed some financial love regarding the office break-in back in September. At the urging of CV Weekly supporters, a GoFundMe page (https://gofund.me/0f90b728) was set up so we could accept any financial help that our readers, advertisers and others wanted to offer. The funds will not only go to replacing some of our stolen equipment but also to purchasing and installing a security system.

I’ll be honest – I initially fought the idea of setting up a GoFundMe page. But wow! Those who could stepped up and contributed. Thank you.

But the time has come to shut down the page. Though we didn’t reach our goal I’m grateful to every single person who took the time to support us. So a week from tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 20, I’m going to instruct that the page be closed.

Once again I thank everyone who contributed to our recovery – it’s really appreciated.
