October: A Busy Month for Local Organizations

Crescenta Valley Town Council Pancake Breakfast On Saturday, Oct. 12 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., the Crescenta Valley Town Council (CVTC) is holding its annual pancake breakfast at St. Luke’s of the Mountains Episcopal Church, 2563 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta (at the corner of Rosemont Avenue).

This has been a tradition for over 10 years. In the past it had been held in the Crescenta Valley High School quad but for the last few years it has been held at St. Luke’s of the Mountains.

Parking can be accessed off Cross Street, behind the church.

Glendale Moose Lodge Bingo Night Glendale Moose Lodge #641 is holding its Third Annual Community Bingo Night on Oct. 19 at the Verdugo Hills Memorial Hall, 4011 La Crescenta Ave. First game starts at 6 p.m., doors open at 4:30 p.m.

The Moose Lodge supports several local organizations including Prom Plus, American Legion Post 288, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1614 and the Fire House. In addition the local lodge, along with other units of Moose International, supports the operation of Mooseheart Child City and School located near Chicago, Illinois. It’s a 1,000-acre community for children and teens in need. It also supports Moosehaven, a 70-acre retirement community for its members near Jacksonville, Florida. And this is just part of what the organization does in support of the local community and beyond.

The Moose Lodge #641 is looking for members so it can grow its local organizations and continue the good work it does in the area.

Around The World In 80 Minutes The community is invited to the Bolton Hall Museum at 1 p.m. on Oct. 12 where participants will “travel around the world” in little more than one hour via a goodly number of 19th century stereoscopes that will be circulated through the audience.

The conductor for this whirlwind trip is Sunland-Tujunga’s History Hunter Craig Durst. Durst’s collection of stereoscopes and hand-selected stereo cards will be the vehicle for this trip “Around the World in 80 Minutes.” His history programs are always entertaining and enlightening.

This event is free and open to the public and everyone is welcome. 

Bolton Hall Museum, home of Little Landers Historical Society, is located at 10110 Commerce Ave. in Tujunga.

Community Shredding Event A free document shredding event is taking place on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital in the east parking lot (enter from Verdugo). This is a drive-through only event.

Bring personal documents (no clips, binders, electronics, disks, X-rays or film allowed) in the car’s trunk for on-site shredding. Limit of 10 boxes/paper bags per car. Do not seal boxes.
