Monsignor Thomas Doyle, pastor emeritus of St. James the Less Church in La Crescenta, passed away Monday morning, the church announced this week. He was 83.
Born in 1930 in County Waterford, Ireland, Doyle was ordained a priest in 1954 at the age of 24 and served in parishes in Norwalk, San Gabriel, and Winnetka before becoming pastor of St. James the Less in 1984. Doyle retired in 1998 and became a pastor-in-residence at St. James the Less in 2010. Doyle was elevated to the rank of monsignor in 1995.
After his retirement, Doyle continued to serve at St. James the Less and Holy Redeemer Church in Montrose.
A viewing and rosary will take place at St. James the Less, at 4625 Dunsmore Ave. in La Crescenta, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. A vigil Mass will take place at 7 p.m. on Sunday. The vigil Mass will be celebrated by regional Bishop Gerald Wilkerson.
The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Monday. The funeral Mass will be celebrated by Archdiocese of Los Angeles Archbishop José H. Gómez.
Doyle will be buried in Ireland.
