9/11 Memorial Meeting Planned
Rose Hills Memorial Park & Mortuary is hosting an informational planning meeting for its upcoming event, “9/11: 10-Year Ceremony of Remembrance.”
The meeting will take place on July 25 at 2 p.m. at Rosie’s Cafeteria at Rose Hills, 3888 Workman Mill Road in Whittier.
All community members, elected officials, first responders, organizations and businesses interested in supporting the event are asked to attend or send a representative to the planning meeting. Those who would like to participate but cannot attend should still R.S.V.P.
The “9/11: 10-Year Ceremony of Remembrance” events at Rose Hills are believed to be the only activities planned in Los Angeles County to honor first responders and remember those who died in the 9/11 attacks. Initial plans for the 11-day event include a 9/11 wall of names display beginning Sept. 1, a nightly reading of the names of all who perished on 9/11 beginning Sept. 1 and concluding during the Sept. 11 ceremony and a nightly light display.
For information or to R.S.V.P. contact Phyllis Grabot, (805) 341-7269 or Bonnie Quintanilla, (818) 681-5777.
Rate increases on the horizon for CVWD
Customers of the Crescenta Valley Water District (CVWD) can expect to see the cost of their water rates rise in 2012.
The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), a consortium of various cities and water districts across Southern California, is facing a 7.5% increase in the costs of importing its water to its member water districts. The MWD is the CVWD’s main provider of water.
CVWD’s board of directors will hold a meeting on Tuesday, July 12 at 7 p.m. to vote on its 2011-2012 budget, which will determine how CVWD customers will be affected by these rate increases.
The public is encouraged to attend.
