Fire Hydrant Thefts on the Rise

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. (LASD) Century Station detectives are actively investigating the thefts of several fire hydrants from various locations within the community.

In 2024, there were a total of 85 stolen fire hydrants in the unincorporated area of LA County. In the City of Lynwood, 14 fire hydrant thefts occurred in 2024. Both areas are patrolled by Century Sheriff’s Station.

These incidents significantly threaten public safety and disrupt essential emergency services, according to LASD.

Due to the severity of the incident, Century Station is partnering with the Major Crimes Bureau to investigate the matter. Investigators are working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the thefts. Fire hydrants play a crucial role in ensuring effective fire response and public safety, and their removal can have serious consequences.

There is no additional information available at this time. The public is urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to the fire hydrants.
