The United Food and Commercial Workers, the union that covers grocery store employees at Ralphs, Albertsons and Vons, has asked the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service to assist in their contract negotiations.
The FMCS was established in 1947 and has provided mediation and arbitration services to industry, our communities and government agencies worldwide, according to their website www.fmcs.gov.
On April 20 the UFCW members voted “overwhelmingly” to approve a strike authorization. This did not mean the members would go on strike immediately only that the union has approved a strike if contract negotiations do not improve.
