LAUGH YOU’RE A$$ OFF AT ALEX
Dana Carvey, Billy Gardell, Kevin Nealon and Christopher Titus headline “Laugh You’re A$$ Off, Save The World,” an evening of hilarious and clean comedy benefiting abused and at-risk children at Olive Crest, on Saturday, May 7 at 8 p.m. at the Alex Theatre in Glendale. Jillian Barberie from Good Day LA will be the evening’s special host.

Olive Crest transforms the lives of at-risk children through the healing power of the family by providing a full continuum of services that meet the individual needs of youth in crisis. All proceeds raised from this event will support Olive Crest’s programs in the Greater Los Angeles area.

BARBERSHOP QUARTET HOSTED BY LEISURE CLUB
On May 6 the Leisure Club of La Cañada Flintridge will present four “young at heart” blended singers who have entertained together for the past nine years.
The Bill’s Bari Pie Barbershop Quartet also sings as part of the San Fernando Valleyaires Barbershop Chorus, a 13-time winner of California competitions.
All are invited. The Leisure Club meets in the multi purpose room at the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA at 1 p.m.

In honor of Mother’s Day, the Verdugo Hills Family YMCA will be opening its facility to allow all mothers/grandmothers free access to the Y between Thursday, May 5 and Sunday, May 8. Mothers may use the Y facility as much as they would like for these four days and this offer is open to the entire community.

O’DALY AT FLINTRIDGE BOOKSTORE AND COFFEEHOUSE
On Friday, May 6 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Flintridge Bookstore and Coffeehouse hosts a reading and book signing for William O’Daly, poet and translator of nine books by Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. O’Daly reads from “The Hands of Day,” “Book of Questions,” and the most recently published “World’s End.” O’Daly is also includes some of his original work in the program, which ends with a Q&A session. Historical flutes played by Rick Wilson, Professor of Mathematics at Caltech, accompany the readings.

PRETTY LITTLE PRINCESS FASHION SHOW AND TEA
WAW Talent Training and Performing Studios is inviting little girls ages 5-11 to dress up in their fanciest attire for play dates on three Saturdays: May 14, 21, and 28 at the Community Center of La Cañada from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. These special little princesses will learn to walk the runway with poise, participate in “mock” photo shoots, apply play make up, wear high heels and get all dolled up in fancy accessories provided by us. The princesses will also learn to stand up straight, introduce themselves, sit properly and speak up in front of their Royal Court.
Family and friends are invited to the final class on May 28 when they will enjoy the “Pretty Little Princess Fashion Show” while being served tea and sandwiches made by their little princesses.

On Saturday and Sunday, May 7 and 8, Descanso Gardens is hosting a Patina Mother’s Day Brunch. Treat your nearest and dearest to a sumptuous brunch prepared by Patina and served in the Rose Pavilion. Brunch seatings are 10:30 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday; 9 and 10:30 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m. Sunday. TORRES MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
The sixth annual Torres Golf Tournament, held in memory of 2nd. Lt. Andrew Torres, is taking place on Monday, May 16 at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. The tournament will raise funds toward cancer research at HMRI, Huntington Medical Research Institutes, in Pasadena. Registration begins at 9:45 a.m., a putting contest will be at 10:30 a.m., lunch will be served at 11 a.m. followed by the shotgun tee off at noon. A silent auction and reception will be held at 4:30 p.m. and the awards banquet will take place at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $250 per person, which includes barbecue lunch, awards banquet, plus carts and greens fees.
