As of April 23 Los Angeles County Dept. of Public Health has reported 68 new deaths due to COVID-19. Of these deaths 51 people were over the age of 65, 11 people were between the ages of 41 and 65 years and three people who died were between the ages of 18 and 40. Fifty-one people had underlying health conditions including 40 people over the age of 65, nine people between the ages of 41 and 65 years old and two people between the ages of 18 and 40. Public Health does not have information on the three deaths that were reported by the City of Long Beach. The total number of deaths in LA County has now reached 797.
“So many in LA County are mourning people who have passed away from COVID-19. We are deeply sorry for your loss, and you are in our thoughts and prayers every day,” said Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, director of Public Health. “COVID-19 is rapidly becoming one of the leading causes of death among LA County residents. On average, 44 people are dying each day from COVID-19. This is significantly higher than the five people who die each day from the flu and 31 people who die from coronary heart disease.”
As of April 23 there were 1,081 new positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the total in LA County to 17,508 cases. Included in that total number are 419 cases in Glendale; La Cañada Flintridge has reported 37 cases, Eagle Rock reported 71 cases, Sunland has 55 cases and Tujunga 48. In the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County – Angeles National Forest has one to four cases and La Crescenta/Montrose has reported 15.
The City of Glendale has reported nine deaths due to COVID-19 as of April 23.
USC Verdugo Hills Hospital have been reporting its numbers concerning COVID-19 since nearly the beginning of the pandemic. Below are the numbers for April 23:
There are nine USC-VHH patients with confirmed COVID-19 currently in the hospital, 43 have been sent home and 29 have been transferred. There are 29 patients who tested negative for COVID-19, 324 have been sent home and seven have been transferred. There are 11 patients with pending COVID-19 tests in the hospital and eight have been sent home.
