The Los Angeles County Dept. of Public Health has confirmed 25 new deaths and 425 new cases of COVID-19. That brings to date 7,955 cases across LA County including 223 total deaths, bringing the mortality rate up to 2.8%. As of April 9, 1,894 people who tested positive for COVID-19 have been hospitalized at some point during their illness, 24% of the total cases. Of those 1,894 hospitalized patients, 20% – 35% have needed intubation using a ventilator. Testing capacity continues to increase in LA County, with over 38,300 individuals tested and 15% of people testing positive, according to LA County Public Health.

For the homeless population, 20 total cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed. Of those, four cases are individuals in shelters and 16 are unsheltered. One staff member at a shelter has passed away due to the virus.

At USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, there are nine patients with confirmed COVID-19 currently in the hospital, 21 were sent home and 13 patients were transferred. There were 27 patients who tested negative for COVID-19 in the hospital, 164 were sent home and three were transferred. There are five patients with pending COVID-19 tests who are currently in the hospital and one was sent home.

LA County Sheriffs Dept. has started to release COVID-19 cases affecting employees on a daily basis. As of April 9, there were 447 employees quarantined, 27 have tested positive and 188 are back at work. Within custody environments affected by COVID-19, there are 47 confirmed cases in county jails, with six among inmates and 41 among staff. And within state prisons, there are 11 cases – eight among inmates and three among staff.

The Los Angeles County Fire Dept. confirms 14 cases of COVID-19, with 26 personnel quarantined, two who are in isolation and are ill, and 12 who have returned to work.
