Just A Little Overwhelmed

Have you ever felt like your brain was going to quite literally explode out of your head? Welcome, my friend, to my world.

At this point every year I begin to feel like I’m on a treadmill that has been sped up and I’m running so I don’t fall off. Let me just say – I’m not a runner. I like a continuous, reliable, manageable pace, not one that makes me feel, well, overwhelmed. But that’s how I feel right now. And it’s all with good stuff.

So far this year, Prom Plus (of which I’m president) has hosted a bingo game, a board meeting on the last Monday of the month, a fundraiser for our Relay for Life team and an open house barbecue. We are preparing for our annual Taste of Montrose on May 5 – restaurants wanted! – and, of course, the big event on May 18-19 when an expected 400 students will head to the Crescenta-Cañada Y after prom for an after-party beyond compare.

This weekend is the annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life Foothills at Clark Magnet High School. The 24-hour relay begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning with the survivors and caregivers walking and continues until 9 a.m. on Sunday morning. During that 24 hours, participants will hear from those battling cancer, beating cancer or giving care to cancer warriors. There will be music, cheers, tears and a spirit of unity in the fight against a disease that has affected almost every family in one way or another. I encourage you to be there whether for the entire 24 hours or just a portion. And why is it 24 hours? Because cancer never sleeps so for 24 hours neither do we. http://tinyurl.com/yy8k7gvu

On Sunday is the annual Craft Beer Fest on Honolulu Avenue. What a great way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon – seeing friends, tasting delicious food and sipping some new brews. I’ll be there – I hope you stop by the CV Weekly booth and say hi.

I know that I’m not alone feeling “swamped” during this busy time of year but I hope that you’ll take a few minutes to turn in a ballot with your choices for The Finest. That’s right – it’s time to let your voice be heard on who are the best in their fields of business or service. Love your doctor? Write his/her name down! Is your mechanic the finest in his/her field? Let your friends and neighbors know! Finest ballots are available in this week’s paper on page 22 and will also be in the next four issues of the CV Weekly. Online ballots will also be available at www.cvweekly.com.

So sharpen your pencils and make your selections today!
