Update COVID-19 March 21, 2020

By Mary O’KEEFE

As the COVID-19 continues to shape and change our lives, many of us are dealing with real worries. For those of us who have friends and families who are now in self quarantine waiting to see if they are symptomatic, for those of us who have loved ones who are elderly and/or have preexisting conditions and for those who are worried about how they will pay their bills, it can be overwhelming. This virus has touched lives in so many ways but, as always, there are those who are exemplifying the best in humanity — the emergency responders, the doctors, nurses and medical staff who are working 24/7, the government workers who are watching every little nuance of this pandemic and sharing factual information.
Now we hear of Americans sewing facemasks and gowns, helping to shop for the elderly, walking dogs for those who cannot leave their home and doing other amazing things to help their fellow human.
CVW would like to share the thoughts, prayers, jokes and well wishes of our readers. Because we all have a little more time on our hands while we stay home, CVW is asking you to take a photo of a card (a handmade card would be great) offering well wishes that we can share with others. Email CVW your photos and we will share with all our readers.
In addition, create special messages for medical professionals and emergency responders so we can share them with staff at hospitals and law enforcement/fire stations so those who are on the front line of this pandemic know we have their back, that we care and are grateful for their dedication.
We remind you that those who need mental health support can call (800) 854-7771 at the Los Angeles County Public Health Department; on the weekend, people will receive an “after hours access” message. Follow the prompts. As always, if you feel you need immediate help call 911.
