The City of Glendale Takes Steps to Help Seniors and Those at Higher Risk for Serious Illness from COVID-19

The following is a list of services the City of Glendale and business establishments in the community will be providing to seniors and those at higher risk for serious illness from COVID-19:

• Effective immediately, the Glendale Fire Dept. will be providing delivery services of groceries and essential goods for Glendale seniors and individuals that are at higher risk of getting very ill from COVID-19. The department will provide this service at least through the end of March. Those in need can call (818) 548-4814 to request service.

• The City’s Economic Development Division has developed a list of local grocery stores that are providing special services for seniors including

Trader Joe’s, which will bring seniors up to the front of the line. They will also be putting items aside for seniors and assisting them with their shopping. This includes both the Montrose and Glenoaks locations. Whole Foods Market will be adjusting its store hours to the general public: from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., it will be open to seniors and team members only, then from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. it will be open to the general public. Ralphs will bring seniors up to the front of the line to enter the store and during checkout.

In addition, although senior center facilities are closed, the City of Glendale Community Services and Parks Dept. developed a contingency plan to continue feeding seniors in the community who are a part of the Elderly Nutrition Program.

Meal Distribution Plan for the Congregate Meals programs for lunch – pickup times are from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Adult Recreation Center, 201 E. Colorado, Glendale and the Louise Street entrance for seniors with last names A-L and the main lobby entrance near the Glendale Central Library for seniors with last names M-Z. Meals will be distributed seven days per week at this site.

Also at the Sparr Heights Community Center at 1613 Glencoe Way in Glendale 91208 at the Paloma Ave entrance (all seniors; one pickup zone). Meals will be distributed Monday through Friday.

At the Pacific Community Center, 501 S. Pacific Ave., Glendale, pick up at the main entrance of the lobby (all seniors; one pick up zone). Meals will be distributed Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Dial-A-Ride seniors who attend ENP can remain in their Dial-A-Ride transport bus and City staff will hand them their meals.

Local businesses providing special assistance to seniors and those at higher risk for serious illness from COVID-19 should contact the City of Glendale at (818) 548-4844 so the information can be shared.

Locally grocery stores are continuing their effort to keep items on the shelves and to keep the stores clean; hours have been adjusted.

Vons in La Crescenta and Montrose: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; quantities of certain items are limited.

Ralphs in La Crescenta and La Cañada: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until further notice. Ralphs in La Crescenta is limiting shoppers to 50 with the first opening of the doors in the morning, then customers as capacity allows.

Trader Joe’s in La Crescenta/Montrose: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. TJ’s is limiting 30 people at a time to enter the store.

Trader Joe’s in La Cañada: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. TJ’s is limiting about 40 people at a time to enter the store.

Gelson’s Market in La Cañada: 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. seniors will be allowed into the store; from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. the general public will be allowed into the store.

Sprouts in La Cañada: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
