Two Arrested for Illegal Possession of Firearms, Drug Sales and More

On Jan. 4 just before 3 a.m., a GPD patrol officer located a vehicle travelling near the intersection of Colorado Street and Glendale Avenue that was wanted for felony evading out of another jurisdiction. A felony stop was conducted and the driver, 41-year-old David Martinez of Porterville, was discovered to have a suspended license and the passenger, 39-year-old Cherisa Baker of Porterville, was discovered to have multiple outstanding warrants and was carrying a loaded firearm on her person. A vehicle search produced another firearm, ammunition, several thousands of dollars in cash, methamphetamine, and over 900 Oxycodone pills along with other narcotics-related paraphernalia.

Martinez was arrested and booked for possessing controlled substances, possessing narcotics for sale, identity theft, possessing a controlled substance while armed and for driving with a suspended license. 

Baker was arrested and booked for carrying a concealed weapon with a prior felony, providing a false identification to officers and possessing controlled substance and paraphernalia and for numerous outstanding warrants.

Six Stolen Vehicles Recovered; 11 Arrested

On Dec. 19 just after midnight, an officer assigned to Glendale PD’s Patrol Bureau observed a vehicle travelling near the intersection of Glenoaks Boulevard and Providencia Avenue with expired registration. The officer initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver, 33-year-old Ruthie Otis (transient). It should be noted that Otis provided the officer with an ID belonging to another individual. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle Otis was driving had been reported stolen. Assisting units arrived, and a vehicle search produced a bindle of methamphetamine and three methamphetamine pipes. Otis was ultimately arrested and booked for vehicle theft, identity theft, possessing a controlled substance, possessing unlawful paraphernalia, impersonation, and a no-bail parole violation warrant.

On Dec. 21 at approximately 4:45 p.m., an officer assigned to Glendale PD’s Patrol Bureau located a stolen vehicle in a business parking lot on the 300 block of West Los Feliz Boulevard. Assisting units arrived and contacted a male seated in the driver’s seat, 33-year-old Philip Lares of Los Angeles. While speaking with Lares, officers observed a methamphetamine pipe in the vehicle. A subsequent vehicle search produced a baggie of methamphetamine and a jar of fentanyl. 

Lares was arrested and booked for vehicle theft, possessing narcotics and a controlled substance, and possessing unlawful paraphernalia.

Later on Dec. 21 just before midnight, GPD officers on patrol located a stolen vehicle travelling along the 500 block of West Chevy Chase Drive. Officers conducted a felony stop and contacted the driver, 29-year-old Angel Rubalcava (transient), and passenger, 32-year-old Jessica Scouller of Los Angeles. A vehicle search produced items of mail belonging to several other individuals, methamphetamine pipes and methamphetamine. Rubalcava was arrested and booked for vehicle theft, identity theft, possessing a controlled substance and controlled substance paraphernalia. Scouller was arrested and booked for possessing controlled substances and controlled substance paraphernalia. 

Due to LA County’s emergency “zero-dollar” bail order, Rubalcava and Scouller were both released from custody with a notice to appear in court at a later date.

On Dec. 22 at approximately 5:30 a.m., a Glendale PD patrol officer located a stolen vehicle traveling near the intersection of Central Avenue and Doran Street. Assisting units arrived and a felony stop was conducted. The driver, 37-year-old Juan Granero (transient), was discovered to be on active parole. The vehicle’s ignition had been damaged and officers located a glass pipe with methamphetamine residue along with various burglary tools inside of the vehicle. Granero was subsequently arrested and booked for grand theft of an automobile, possessing burglary tools, controlled substance paraphernalia and for violating the terms of his parole.

On Dec. 23 just before 10 p.m., officers assigned to Glendale PD’s Patrol Bureau responded to the 100 block of South Cedar Street where they located a stolen vehicle occupied by several males. The officers conducted a felony stop and contacted the males, four juveniles and 20-year-old Juan Robles of Los Angeles. During the investigation, officers recovered a loaded handgun, a nitrous oxide tank and several balloons. Robles and the four juveniles were arrested and booked for vehicle theft, carrying a loaded firearm in public, and for possessing nitrous oxide. 

Due to LA County’s emergency “zero-dollar” bail order, Robles was released from custody with a notice to appear in court at a later date. The juveniles were transferred to a juvenile detention center.

On Dec. 26 just before 8 a.m., GPD officers on patrol responded to a business on the 5000 block of San Fernando Road regarding suspicious circumstances. Upon arrival, officers contacted 27-year-old Jonathan Menendez of Los Angeles who was found to be in possession of a window punch and several identification cards in other people’s names. Further investigation revealed that Menendez arrived at the location in a vehicle that had been reported stolen. A subsequent vehicle search produced a hackzall and other tools, a pouch containing a key fob and eight checks issued to different people, medication belonging to other individuals, a large amount of mail, and credit/debit cards in other people’s names along with miscellaneous items containing personal identifying information of other individuals. Officers discovered that Menendez was on active probation and had a no-bail warrant out for his arrest. Menendez was arrested and booked for vehicle theft, identity theft, forging an official seal, and for his outstanding warrant. 

Two Arrested for Identity Theft

On Dec. 28 at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers assigned to Glendale PD’s Special Enforcement Detail (SED) were patrolling near the intersection of Colorado and Lafayette streets.

The officers saw a male, 40-year-old Roberto Rayon of Los Angeles, and a female, 31-year-old Gabriela Alonso of Alhambra, sitting on a bench. Alonso had a local warrant out for her arrest. Alonso and Rayon had numerous belongings with them. An initial consensual search of Alonso’s items produced pepper spray, a Social Security card, two California driver’s licenses, and several credit/debit cards in other people’s names, along with fraudulent checks. A further search of the items revealed more credit/debit cards in other people’s names, sheets of blank checks with Rayon’s name printed on them, five blank access cards and paperwork containing various account numbers and personal identifying information of other individuals.

Assisting officers arrived and a baggie of methamphetamine and a methamphetamine pipe were located on Alonso’s person. During the investigation it was discovered that Alonso had a prior felony conviction that prohibits her from carrying pepper spray.

Alonso was arrested and booked for identity theft, possessing blank checks, illegally possessing tear gas, possessing a controlled substance, and for her outstanding warrant. Rayon was arrested for identity theft and possessing blank checks. Rayon was released at the scene and given a notice to appear in court at a later date.

 

Three Arrested for Identity Theft

On Dec. 30 just after 2 p.m., officers assigned to Glendale PD’s Downtown Policing Unit (DPU) conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle leaving the Glendale Galleria shopping center for an equipment violation.

The officers spoke with the driver, identified as 21-year-old Hayk Hakobyan of Glendale. During the conversation, Hakobyan drove off initiating a pursuit. Hakobyan then collided into two vehicles near the intersection of Sanchez Drive and Brand Boulevard.

A felony traffic stop was then conducted and Hakobyan, along with the other two occupants (38-year-old Sevan Asatoorian of Glendale and 39-year-old David Vasquez of North Hollywood) was ordered out of the vehicle.

Utilizing departmental resources, officers learned that the vehicle Hakobyan was driving had been reported stolen. Hakobyan was found to be in possession of a California driver’s license and credit/debit cards in other people’s names.

A search of the vehicle produced a washed check made out to Asatoorian in a high dollar amount along with two checks, credit cards, a California driver’s license, and other banking-related information in other people’s names along with dozens of pieces of mail belonging to other individuals.

Vasquez was discovered to have multiple warrants out for his arrest and Asatoorian was discovered to be on active probation.

Ultimately, Hakobyan was arrested and booked for evading, vehicle theft and identity theft. Vasquez was arrested and booked for identity theft and his outstanding warrants. Asatoorian was arrested and booked for identity theft, but due to LA County’s emergency “zero-dollar” bail order, he was released from custody with a notice to appear in court at a later date.
