On the evening of May 22, family and friends gathered in the MacDonald Auditorium at Crescenta Valley High School (CVHS) to celebrate the many accomplishments of graduating seniors at Senior Awards night. Parents, siblings, and loved ones congregated to watch the seniors emerge, seated neatly on the stage, adorned in their caps and gowns, graduation cords, sashes and pins.

The ceremony began with an opening from the senior class president and the senior class vice president, followed by a moving presentation of colors, and the choir’s rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner.” The introduction was given by CVHS Principal Christine Benitez who beamed proudly as her students accepted a number of awards throughout the night.

Principal Benitez wrote kindly to the seniors and their families in the awards night pamphlet: “Your journey throughout high school has been a testament to your resilience, determination and unwavering spirit.”

Several rounds of awards and recognitions were announced during the Senior Awards night, including the President’s Education Awards, National Merit Scholarships and Advanced Placement certificates. Awards were also given out from specialized departments, such as the languages, theater and cinematography. Community service also proved to be a defining part of the seniors’ experiences as many awards were given to honor the countless hours seniors spent serving their community.

The night came to a close by recognizing the colleges graduating seniors have committed to, often with accompanying scholarships. According to Principal Benitez, around $3 million was awarded to graduating seniors from the colleges they applied to. CVHS graduating seniors committed to an array of colleges across the country, ranging from the University of Puget Sound and the University of Alabama to universities in California such as UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz and Stanford.

As the school year rapidly comes to a close, congratulations are in order for the graduating class of 2024. In the words of Principal Benitez, “Go forth, Falcons, and soar to greater heights!”
