Summer Concerts in the Park, a popular summertime family program organized by the Community Services & Parks Dept., is coming back for the summer of 2016. Come to the north end of Verdugo Park on Wednesday nights through Aug. 3, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and enjoy a free concert. Performers during the series include Verdugo Swing Society, Reflexx ’80s, The Hodads, Retro-Soul, The Swing Cats Big Band, Incendio and World Fusion. Pack your picnic basket, gather your family and come for these wonderful evenings of great music and fun. A special thank you to event sponsors Super King Markets, Neptune Productions, the L.A. County Arts Commission, and L.A. County Supervisor for the 5th District Michael D. Antonovich for supporting the event.

The 33rd Annual National Night Out will be held Tuesday, Aug. 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. National Night Out is a community-driven event where neighbors get to know each other and share concerns, strategies and ideas for safer communities. The Glendale Police Dept. partners with event hosts to coordinate and plan the events. While the traditional “lights on” and front porch vigils remain a part of National Night Out, activities have expanded to include block parties, potlucks, cookouts, flashlight walks, contests, youth activities, parades and safety tips. The Glendale Police Dept., the Glendale Fire Dept., members of the Glendale City Council and city officials will visit these events to hear concerns and ideas and explore how they might work together to improve the safety of their neighborhoods. Last year, 42 events were held in the City of Glendale and an even larger participation is hoped for in 2016! You do not have to be a current Neighborhood Watch neighborhood to participate; National Night Out is for everyone!
