Our local heroes

Ted Ayala

On Monday, the Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce helped pay tribute to our fallen soldiers at a ceremony at Montrose’s Vietnam War Memorial. Our treasurer, Charles Beatty, was our emcee. We were very glad to enjoy the company of many distinguished guests including Glendale Mayor Ara Najarian, Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich, Senator Carol Liu, Congressman David Dreier, among other notables. Our president, Mike Perry, contributed a very moving speech. A sizable crowd gathered for this solemn occasion.
As everyone assembled to honor our soldiers, it was very fitting that the sun shone so brilliantly over head. Though these brave men and women paid the ultimate price to safeguard our country, their noble efforts live on today, shining down on every freedom-loving American.
Now on to something lighter.
Speaking of lighter, I must have lost a good 5 lbs. last week. No, I didn’t go on a crash diet or go under the knife for liposuction. Rather, the 5 lbs. came off the top of my head. Doing this MVCC gig can be very taxing on one’s time and you tend to forget the little things – like having a hair cut. So over the last couple of months, a great mound of follicles had gathered on my head, eager for the buzz of the barber’s clippers. Pressed for time as I was that day, I headed up the street to Classy Cuts (2064 Verdugo Blvd., 818-249-3360) for some help.
Owner Jenia Khachekian put me at ease and made me feel right at home. Soon I heard the buzzing of the clippers grazing by my ears as clump after clumb of cumbersome hair was lopped off. It didn’t take too long until Jenia had finally left me looking like some kind of matinee idol. I was pleased beyond words.
As I was waiting around for my hair cut, I couldn’t help but notice how kind and thoughtful Jenia is of other customers’ wants and needs. Though they were being attended to by other stylists, she gladly helped out and gave her advice as to what would look best for her customers. All in all, it was very pleasing being there at Classy Cuts. Oh and how great it feels to have my scalp be able to breathe again! Classy Cuts’ hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. seven days a week. Don’t let that bad hair day get you down. Visit Jenia and her crew at Classy Cuts and come out looking fabulous.
