A ribbon-cutting celebration for the grand opening of the new Urgent Care Center at Orthopaedic Institute for Children (OIC) was held on July 23. Marianne Jennings, president of the La Cañada Flintridge Orthopaedic Guild (LCFOG), attended the ribbon-cutting along with Guild members Caryl Pettit, Barbara Self, Alicia Thompson and guest Marjorie Buck.
Mayor Garcetti delivered the keynote congratulations, and Dr. Scaduto, president and CEO of OIC, and other prominent volunteers and stakeholders spoke. The UCLA marching band surprised the large crowd with its spirited playing. A banner was unveiled revealing that OIC had reached $13,327,065 in donations, which is 70% of its 2020 campaign goal of $20 million.

Guests enjoyed food, drinks and music then toured the new Urgent Care Center, which is state-of-the-art, is double the size of the old center, and hosts an interactive wall for kids and a Dodger wall. The “new” replaces the old Urgent Care Center at OIC that was built in the 1950s.
Over its 108-year history OIC honored its promise to the community and never closed its doors to patients during the remodeling. The Urgent Care Center at OIC provides excellent orthopaedic medical care to children with musculoskeletal injuries regardless of ability to pay. LCFOG members meet monthly September through June in members’ homes and are dedicated to supporting OIC. The Book and Author Luncheon, LCFOG’s annual fundraiser, will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. Information on the luncheon will be available closer to the luncheon date.
