The Crescenta Valley High softball team will be on the road today for its first-round matchup of the CIF Division III playoffs. The Falcons will take on the Redondo Union Sea Hawks, in Redondo. Game time is 3:15 p.m.
The Sea Hawks won the Bay League with a 9-1 record. They were 20-7 overall. The Falcons were 9-5 in the Pacific League, which was good for third place, 16-10 overall. They are led by first-year coach Amanda Peek, who played for the Falcons from 2003 to 2004. CV is led by seniors Adela Alatraca (pitcher) Mel Abzun (centerfield) and Hailey Cookson (shortstop/pitcher).
The baseball team missed out on its fourth straight league title this year, but their attention is now on trying to repeat last year’s payoff success. The Falcons went 22-5 this year and 11-3 in league, but placed second behind Burroughs. Last season, the team won two playoff games and reached the Division II Quarterfinals, before losing to Valencia of Placentia.
On Friday, they host Ventura at Stengel Field. The Cougars were second in the Channel League, going 7-5. They were 17-7 overall. CV’s Brian Gadsby will get the call on the mound. First pitch is 4:15 p.m.
