Free talk at Church of Christ, Scientist
Church of Christ, Scientist in Montrose is hosting a free talk on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. at the church. This lecture, titled “TWO4U – The Way Out for You,” will be presented by Laura LaPointe.

Installation Ceremony Planned
An installation ceremony is planned for Rev. Gordon Clay Bailey, a Unitarian Universalist minister, on Feb. 21 at 4 p.m. at the church.

Rev. Bailey was born and raised in Harlem, New York and is known for many things: as a chaplain, counselor, spiritual leader, interfaith advocate and, as of Feb. 21, “a newly installed minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Verdugo Hills (UUCVH).” Rev. Bailey began his ministry at UUCVH officially in September 2015.

Among his first duties, Rev. Bailey and the congregation took on the responsibilities as guest chefs at the Ascencia homeless shelter in Glendale once a month as well as offering adult education classes on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at UUCVH. They are also founding members of the newly formed Greater LA UU Justice Group, an action-oriented entity.

Rev. Bill Sinkford, the former president in the UUA (and first president of color), who is currently the senior minister at First Unitarian Church of Portland, will preach the sermon at Verdugo Hills to the congregation and Rev. Bailey.

UUCVH is located at 4451 Dunsmore Ave. in the La Crescenta are of Glendale.

Seminars for Caregivers and on Mindful Aging
The community is invited to attend free seminars facilitated by Kathy Garcia Egan, LCSW,, offered monthly on the first Saturday of each month at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in La Crescenta.

Mindfulness And Caregivers is a practical guide to caring for one’s self while caring for others. These are on the first Saturday of even numbered months from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Mindful Aging offers practical tools to enrich life’s journey. These are on the first Saturday of odd numbered months from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
