La Cañada Presbyterian Church Drama Ministry is proud to be kicking of its 2011 dramatic presentations with the Off–Broadway hit musical, “The Last Five Years” by Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown.

“We are excited to bring this gorgeous musical to the La Cañada community,” said Director of Drama Ministries Justin Fisher. “I love what this show says about relationships and the difficulties many couples face today. It is a great pleasure of mine to provide unique theatre experiences to this community and I am eager for everyone to see this production.”

A relatively new addition, LCPC’s Drama Ministry has been responsible for many dramatic works in the La Cañada community over the past year including “Mark Twain’s Diaries of Adam & Eve,” “The Bible: The Complete Word of God (Abridged)” and the Good Friday drama “Were You There.” This ministry is also currently working with Metamorphosis Theatre Company to provide free improv comedy shows for high school students at LCPC.

“The Last Five Years” is a compelling musical about the relationship of a young novelist, Jamie and his wife Cathy, an aspiring actress. During their courtship, the young couple journey from infatuation to dissolution amidst their personal struggles and successes. “The Last Five Years” captures all the emotional conflicts of sustaining a modern relationship, while highlighting the transforming power of love.

This musical production features a cast of two, Andrew Pratt and Tina Tong. Pratt, the assistant director of Worship Arts at LCPC who leads worship every Sunday at its 11:00 a.m. Contemporary Service, is making his theatrical debut. Tong, who sings back-up for Andrew on the Worship Team, is a classically-trained theatre actress. The pair has been singing together for over a year and “The Last Five Years” will be a perfect showcase for their collaborative spirit.

All performances of “The Last Five Years” will be held at the La Cañada Presbyterian Church Worship Arts Center located at 626 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada. The suggested ticket donation is $15. Performances are on Friday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 19 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m.
