Dec. 18, 1932 – Jan. 14, 2016

Father, grandfather and dear friend, LaMar Franklin (Mr. LaMar) passed away at his home in Altadena on Jan. 14. LaMar is best remembered as our beloved crossing guard at Monte Vista Elementary school where he spent 11 years driving twice daily from his home to La Crescenta to protect the safety of the children he loved, “his kids” as he would refer to them.

In 2006 Crescenta Valley Town Council honored LaMar with the Good Neighbor Award and in 2007 he received PTAs Honorary Service Award for his service to Monte Vista and the community. He was well known for his homemade sweet potato pies that he would lovingly prepare and share with parents and other community members and friends. In 2008-09 LaMar resigned his duties as crossing guard due to slow healing after hand surgery. The past few years he kept himself busy by helping neighbors, friends and driving across state to visit his sons and grandchildren.

LaMar was born Dec. 18, 1932. He was preceded by the passing of his wife Maydel, grandson Markas LaMar Franklin and stepdaughter Carol Franklin. He is survived by his two sons James and Lorenzo Franklin, and grandsons Damello Franklin and Lorenzo Franklin, Jr.

The gift of love, laughter and a big smile is what Lamar shared with us all. He will be greatly missed but will continue to live in our hearts forever. We love you, Pops!

Memorial service and celebration of life to take place on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m. at Pasadena United Methodist Church, 349 W. Altadena Drive, Pasadena, CA 91001.
