Roberta Lee Burkenheim passed away peacefully on Jan. 8. She was 66 years old.

Roberta (Robbie) was the second of seven children of Jay and Dale Drayman of La Crescenta. Born in Maryland, at age 4 she accompanied her father on a cross-country California road trip in search of a new family homestead. The Draymans found that home in the Crescenta Valley, purchasing a house in the “sage-brush” area of La Crescenta.

Roberta attended the Glendale schools, graduating from Crescenta Valley High School in its first graduating class. She subsequently earned an undergraduate degree and a master’s degree and specialized in Occupational and Rehabilitative Therapy.

Despite long-term health issues, Roberta devoted much of her time to collecting and organizing food donations and providing social resources for the disadvantaged.

She is survived by her son Steven and daughter-in-law Karen; two grandchildren Bryce and Maryssa; sisters Nancy Drayman and Terry Weisser; and brothers Paul, Charles and John Drayman (her brother Richard having predeceased her); also her sister-in-law Donna Pulice, niece Sarah Weisser, nephew Michael Drayman and longtime friend and caregiver Terri Hronek.

Services were held on Jan. 12.

Roberta’s kindness, social conscience and thoughtfulness will be missed by all who knew her.
