A routine traffic stop by Glendale police ended in the arrest of a 50-year-old man and the discovery of a handgun and loaded magazine.

On Sunday about 5:37 p.m. Glendale police stopped a vehicle for expired registration license plate tags in the area of Boston and Anderson avenues. During the stop they discovered that the driver, Leif Larsson, 50, of Tujunga had an outstanding Failure to Appear warrant.

As he was being taken into custody he became combatant and allegedly told officers he refused to go to jail and was not cooperating.

During a search of the suspect’s person a “pistol magazine containing eight live rounds of .45 caliber ammunition” was found in his trouser belt, Lorenz said.

A search of his vehicle found a loaded .45 caliber handgun under the passenger seat.

Larsson is being held on a $35,000 bail.
