The Season Begins!
Radios can jam Christmas music down our throats long before Thanksgiving but for me the holiday spirit officially kicks off with White Friday and the tree lighting in Montrose on the Friday after Thanksgiving. These are soon followed by the Montrose Christmas Parade and, this year, the inaugural La Crescenta Christmas tree lighting at the La Crescenta Library.
Steve and I were able to stop by the La Crescenta Library briefly on Friday night before heading to another engagement. It was impressive to see all the local folks who came out to support the tree lighting. Supervisor Michael Antonovich also made time to wish us all well before reading a story to the kids in the library’s community room. Thank you to the hardworking volunteers who made it all come together.
Prior to the parade on Saturday, CV Weekly “elves” handed out coffee, hot cider and cookies to passersby. The treats were certainly popular because we went through several boxes of cookies and bottles of cider! Around back we hosted a more adult affair for our customers and other important guests who came to Honolulu Avenue for the parade. I’m glad to have had the chance to say “thank you” to these VIPs who support the paper week after week, year after year.
Then it was time to board our transportation down Honolulu. Along with our driver and me, CVW ad professionals Kim Mekelburg and Lisa Stanners, columnist Sue Kilpatrick and her husband Doug, office manager Emily Cronkhite and son Aidan, and guests Celeste and Quinn filled our converted Escalade arranged by the Early Rodders.
It was so much fun to wave to everyone who lined the streets for this fabulous parade! And I’ll let you in on a little secret – when times are tough, I think back on the parade and the shouts of support for the CV Weekly and it helps me get through.
