As Assemblymember Anthony Portantino’s tenure in the state Assembly draws to a close, several community organizations have recognized him for his work on behalf of the 44th Assembly District.

The Pasadena Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority held a “community thank you” and celebration for Assemblymember Portantino, citing his “outstanding service to the constituents of the 44th Assembly District.” The Sunday afternoon event was co-sponsored by Pasadena City College and was a way for community members to express their appreciation for Portantino’s six years of service in the Assembly.

“We salute Anthony Portantino for his exemplary service as a state legislator, his support of the public service activities of Delta and the appreciation he demonstrates for the mission of our sorority,” said Ellen Ligons, president of Pasadena Delta Alumnae Chapter.

The Metro Gold Line Foothill Construction Authority has also recognized Assemblymember Portantino for his “extraordinary” efforts on behalf of the Gold Line. In a recent ceremony in Monrovia, the Metro board of directors thanked Assemblymember Portantino for his “efforts on behalf of the Construction Authority and citizens of the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys” and his “dedication to the completion of the Foothill Extension Project.”

“I am honored to be recognized by so many great community organizations,” stated Portantino. “I have loved representing the 44th Assembly District and feel I was ‘just doing my job.’ Together so many people are committed to serving the San Gabriel Valley and I feel lucky to be one of them.”

NATHA – Neighbors Acting Together Helping All – also paid tribute to the assemblymember with their IMPACT award. The award recognizes his support of NATHA community events in Northwest Pasadena and participation in programs that support students and the greater community.

According to NATHA executive director Celestine Walker, Assemblymember Portantino was “honored for his ability to provide special attention to the needs and interest of persons who are historically overlooked in the political process, while insuring community access to information and resources, in his representation of this district.”

And Mentoring and Partnership for Youth Development – MPYD – organized an evening reception at John Muir High School in Pasadena last Thursday as a thank you to Assemblymember Portantino for his service to Muir and the MPYD program.
