A family member has been arrested for the murder of his grandfather in Glendale. This is the first reportable homicide in the city of Glendale since 2009.
On Monday, Glendale police received a 911 call from a family member reporting their grandfather was assaulted at his home in the 1800 block of West Glenoaks. When officers arrived, they found that Ruben Sanchez, 84, had been severely beaten. He was treated at the home by Glendale Fire Dept. and transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
At first police thought they were dealing with a burglary gone wrong; however, after an investigation detectives were led to a family member.
James Sanchez, 22, was identified as a suspect and located, by detectives, in El Cajon on Tuesday. Detectives have not released a motive behind the murder. The investigation is ongoing.
Sanchez’s court date is scheduled for today at the Glendale Municipal Court. GPD is asking for the public’s assistance with any information concerning this incident. Detectives can be reached at (818) 548-3987.
