Family Continues Vigil Over Stricken Coach

Family members of Crescenta Valley High School softball coach Dan Berry continue to stand vigil at the coach’s hospital bedside after he went into cardiac arrest following a seizure-like activity on Oct. 11 at the high school, according to his daughter Jenny Berry Shaver.
He was transported to a local hospital and was put on a ventilator to help him breathe. On Friday, Oct. 21, he was taken off the ventilator.
“Some of you [who] may have known my dad for a while probably know this quote: ‘This is not a question and answer period.’ Well, this is what we feel in our hearts that he would be saying to us right now if he could. He never wanted to be sustained by artificial means. He made that very clear to his children. If he could not be giving his 150% to everything he did on or off the softball field, then he would feel his life is pointless. We have decided to show him our utmost respect and honor his wishes. It is time to let the Lord cradle him in his arms, forever (Colossians 3:20 and Ephesians 6:1). We will [be] removing his ventilator [Oct. 21] and let him go,” Shaver stated.
As of this morning Berry’s family continue their watch at his bedside. Softball team members, present and former, have been comforting each other after learning of the coach’s condition.
Crescenta Valley Weekly will continue to provide updates on Coach Berry on our website www.cvweekly.com.
