Parade Time Approaching
It is time to plan for the 2012 Montrose Christmas Parade on Dec. 1 when the Montrose tradition will once again roll down Honolulu Avenue. Any person or organization that would like to apply to be part of the parade can visit www.montrosechristmasparade.com for an application. The parade organizers need adult volunteers for parade night.

Candidate Forum Tonight
The Crescenta Valley Town Council is hosting a candidate forum tonight, Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. in the La Crescenta Library Community Room for the town council candidates.

Come and ask your questions of the six candidates running. They are vying for three 3-year terms and three 1-year alternate positions.

The La Crescenta Library is located at 2809 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.


Pancakes for Ascencia
A pancake breakfast benefiting Ascencia is being held on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Church in Glendale. Pumpkin pancakes are featured. The cost is $6 per ticket.

St. Mark’s Church is located at 1020 N. Brand Blvd. in Glendale.


Fresh & Easy to Host School Fundraiser
On Monday, Oct. 22, Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market is hosting a school fundraiser. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., 5% of the store’s total sales will be donated to Apperson Street School.

There will be volunteers to assist patrons with their shopping needs and to offer samples of the offerings that evening. There will be a reception table at the front of the store with a box to deposit receipts that evening.

The fundraising focus of the Apperson school year is its Raise the Shade Campaign. Funds raised will be dedicated to the installation of two permanent shade structures on the schoolyard. More information can be found at appersonpta.com.

Flu shots at VHH
Verdugo Hills Hospital (VHH) is offering free flu immunizations to residents 55 years of age and older on Thursday, Nov. 1 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the hospital’s Council Room located on the fourth floor lobby. Flu shots will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

The flu shots are also available to adults who are under a doctor’s care for long-term health or lung problems; anyone who has been admitted to a hospital within the past year for treatment of kidney disease, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, anemia or severe asthma; and anyone who has a type of cancer or immunological disorder, which lowers the body’s normal resistance to infections.

Caution – People who have a serious allergic reaction to eggs should not be vaccinated because the vaccine is made in eggs.

CVWD Board Meeting Schedule
Because Nov. 6 is Election Day, the first meeting in November for the board of directors of the Crescenta Valley Water District will be on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.

CVWD offices are at 2700 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.
