Candidates’ Forum at CVTC

A candidates’ forum for those running for a seat on the town council will be held tonight, Thursday, at the monthly CV Town Council general meeting. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library. The elections will be held on Nov. 6-7 at St. Luke’s of the Mountains.

Also on the agenda is a presentation from public works for preparing for El Niño. Find out what is being done to protect the community from the predicted El Niño set to bring heavy rains to local neighborhoods. In addition, find out what is needed to prepare.

The library is located at 2809 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.

Dog Park Party

On Saturday, Oct. 17, L.A. Parks and Recreation is inviting the public to celebrate the third anniversary of the CV Dog Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The celebration will include several dog-friendly booths, presentations and giveaways. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad will bring its canine unit, there will be an emergency preparedness booth that focuses on how to get a dog ready for any disaster, and a dog grooming school from Pasadena will be answering questions and demonstrating grooming techniques.

The dog park is located at the west end of CV Park at 3901 Dunsmore Ave. in La Crescenta.

Rockhaven on CVCA Agenda

The Crescenta Valley Community Association will meet on Thursday, Oct. 22 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library Community Room. The public is invited to discuss Rockhaven and what would be appropriate at the site. Light refreshments will be served.

Rosemont Preserve Open Gate Afternoon

There will be an “open gate” event at the Rosemont Preserve on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 18. This is a chance to visit the Preserve and wander the trail at your own pace, enjoying the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty. Photographers: bring your camera to capture the late afternoon autumn light.

The gate will be open from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Friends of the Rosemont Preserve committee members will be available to answer questions.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. in La Crescenta. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes if they plan on walking the trail.

This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages, no reservations required.  Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.

Workday Planned at Deukmejian

A wilderness workday at Deukmejian Park is planned for Saturday, Oct. 17. Workers can meet at the park from 8 a.m. to noon for a time of tree watering and weeding. No need to register; just come out to the park for a morning of fun in the sun.

Deukmejian Wilderness Park is located at 3429 Markridge Road in La Crescenta.
