Crescenta Commons Open ‘House’
The Crescenta Commons, located on the corner of Rosemont and Orange avenues, will host An Evening at the Commons on Aug. 28 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Those who come will enjoy treats from a shaved ice truck.
Glendale Cruise Night
The community is invited to Glendale Cruise Night, a free event held in downtown Glendale and sponsored by the City of Glendale in conjunction with the Downtown Glendale Association and presented by the Economic Development Corporation.
Cruise Night is Saturday, Aug. 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and features pre-1980 cars, live music and fireworks.

Open Theatre Auditions at GCC
Open auditions will be held for the Glendale Community College Theatre Arts Dept. fall production at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2 and Thursday, Sept. 3 in the auditorium. Those wishing to audition need only show up for one of the dates. Actors will read sides from the play.
The fall production is the farcical “The Government Inspector,” by Nikolai Gogol and adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher opening Oct. 29.
All cast members must enroll in theatre arts workshops in the fall semester. The required courses are Theatre Arts 162 – Modern Theatre Workshop and Theatre Arts 129 – Backstage Lab for Performers. The production will also need crew including stage managers, light and sound technicians. Production crew must in enroll in Theatre Arts 182 – Technical Theatre in Modern Production.

Descanso Gardens Hosting Drought-Tolerant Landscaping and Rain Barrel Event
Foothill Municipal Water District (Foothill MWD or District) is having a special drought tolerant landscape and rain barrel event at Descanso Gardens on Sunday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event is co-hosted with the City of South Pasadena, Pasadena Water & Power, Crescenta Valley Water District, Glendale Water & Power and Burbank Water & Power. The event will include three classes in the Van de Kamp Hall that will cover the fundamentals of harvesting rainwater with rain barrels, greywater use and drought tolerant landscaping.
Residents must RSVP for the event to receive free admission to Descanso Gardens. Seating for the classes is limited and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
