Possible Home Invasion in
La Crescenta

An attempted home invasion robbery occurred in the 3400 block of Brookhill Street on Aug. 6 around 9:15 p.m. A female, described to be in her late 30s, early 40s, possibly Hispanic, knocked on the residents’ door asking for someone who did not live at the residence.

“When the resident opened the door, two to three males attempted to force their way inside the home,” said Tom Lorenz, city of Glendale spokesman.

The descriptions of the male suspects were possibly Hispanics wearing clothing like hoodies that covered their faces. The suspects tried to open the door and the family pushed them back. They did not gain entry to the home.

One of the suspects was armed with a handgun, but did not use it according to Officer Abe Chung. Witnesses reported hearing loud yelling and saw the suspects running westbound on Brookhill toward Frederick Avenue then southbound on Frederick and out of sight.

No one was hurt during this incident, but Chung reminds residents that if someone is knocking at their door to answer it behind a locked door. Unless the person knocking is known, try not to open it. If the person at the door is persistent and refuses to leave, notify the police immediately by dialing 911 or (818) 548-4911 in Glendale, (818) 248-3464 for the sheriffs. Chung added to notify police/sheriffs of anything that looks suspicious.

Two Elderly Women Robbed

Officer Abe Chung with the Glendale Police Dept. is warning residents to be aware of their surroundings. There have been two similar robbery incidents in the Montrose area where purses were stolen from elderly women.

On July 25, an 82-year-old woman had just parked her car in the rear parking lot of the 2400 block of Honolulu Avenue. As she was walking through the parking lot during daylight hours, a suspect came from behind and pushed her and stole her purse. Later two attempts were made to use her credit card at two separate locations in the Los Angeles area.

On July 28, a 93-year-old woman returned to her home in the 3600 block of Malafia Drive. She parked her car in the driveway. Video surveillance shows a suspect vehicle was following her as she pulled into her driveway. The woman exited her car; the suspect came from behind and stole her purse. No weapon was seen and the suspect never spoke to the woman. Shortly after the robbery, the victim’s credit card was used at two locations in Tujunga.
