A man in his 50s was involved in a fatal accident after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a wall near the Glendale skate park on Cañada Boulevard and Towne Avenue in Glendale just after midnight on July 16.

Glendale police officers reportedly witnessed the man driving at a high rate of speed on Cañada Boulevard about 12:30 a.m.  Officers pulled alongside the man after he stopped at a signal light and told the driver to pull over.  The man allegedly did not appear to understand the officers’ request. He reportedly displayed behavior typical of being under the influence of a narcotic, according to Glendale police.

The man sped off, putting his feet into the air while riding and not holding the handlebars of his motorcycle.  He apparently lost control of his motorcycle while navigating the curve of the road near the Skate Park.

“He hit a curb,” said Lt. Brian Elias.

He flew over the bike and into a concrete bridge.  He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene,” Elias said.
The man’s identity has yet to be released by the Los Angeles County Coroners office pending family notification.
The man had a history of arrests for narcotics by Glendale police. In addition Glendale police found Los Angeles Police Department had arrested the man about two months ago for arson.
