Cooling Stations Open This Weekend
In anticipation of triple-digit temperatures this weekend, the County of Los Angeles is opening several cooling stations. The stations are offered to provide relief from the heat for the elderly and others who face heat-related health difficulties and stress. In Glendale, two stations will be open: Glendale Parks and Recreation Community Services at 201 E Colorado Blvd. will be open on Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at Sparr Heights Community Center at 1613 Glencoe Way on Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Student Film Festival Planned
The Best Student Film Festival Ever, hosted by Chris Vinan and Ebner De Torres, is being held on Friday, July 12 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sparr Heights Community Center. There will be a lot of student films on display as well as live performances, refreshments and raffle prizes. Price of admission is $2.

Fun at Deukmejian
Owls are the topic for the Saturday, July 6 Campfire Program “Who Are You? Hoo? Hoo? Hoo? Hoo?” at Deukmejian Wilderness Park.
The evening begins at 6 p.m. with an hour of nature games and outdoor play. At 7p.m., owl pellets will be spread out for dissection. Then the campfire starts at 7:30 p.m. with songs, skits, slides and s’mores.

The Third Saturday Wilderness Workday for July is called “One Small Step.” It takes place at Deukmejian Wilderness Park on Saturday, July 20 from 8 a.m. until noon.
The workday falls on the 44th anniversary of Man’s first landing on the moon. Join the workday crew as they take small steps with the work to make a giant leap in the restoration of the park.
Families, individuals, groups, and more are invited to come aboard for this latest mission.

Glendale Prepares for 20th Annual Cruise Night
Southern California’s most popular car show is returning for its 20th year on Saturday, July 20 in downtown Glendale! 2013 Cruise Night is a chance to stroll down Brand Boulevard to see the over 400 classic pre-1979 cars.
