Joseph Gatto Commemoration Time ChangeD
The Los Angeles City Council and mayor of Los Angeles will commemorate the legacy of Joseph Gatto, father to Assemblymember Mike Gatto, by naming the intersection of West Silver Lake Boulevard and Rowena Avenue as the Joseph Anthony Gatto Memorial Square. Joseph was murdered in his home on Nov. 13, 2013.

The community is invited to the dedication ceremony on Friday, June 19 at 7:15 a.m.

CVCA Announces Meeting
The Crescenta Valley Community Assn. will next meet on Thursday, June 25 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library community room. Status updates will be given and discussion held regarding local land use issues including the Rim of the Valley Corridor Study (comments deadline June 30), 710 Extension DEIR (comments deadline July 6), development of the Mix property for housing, the Wells Fargo Bank coming to the southwest corner of Foothill and Pennsylvania, and other local land use issues.

Rosemont Preserve Open Gate Afternoon
Treat dad to some together time in the great outdoors! There is an “open gate” event on Sunday afternoon, June 21. This is a chance for visitors to come to the Preserve and wander the trail at their own pace to enjoy the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty. Photographers should bring their cameras to capture the late afternoon light.

The gate will be open from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Friends of the Rosemont Preserve Committee members will be available to answer questions and show this community resource.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. Park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. in La Crescenta. Those planning on walking the trail should wear sturdy shoes.

This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages, no reservations required. Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.

Coyote Sightings in the Foothills
There appears to be a family of coyotes living in the area of Cloud and Glenwood avenues in La Crescenta. Witnesses are reporting seeing at least six coyotes roaming around and one resident said she found the remains of a cat in the area.

Residents can report the sightings to Baldwin Park Animal Shelter at (626) 962-3577.

Reading and More at Glendale Library
Glendale Library, Arts & Culture Children’s Services has partnered with the Glendale Unified School District as a designated site to provide free lunches to children ages 18 and younger this summer at the Central Library Entrance, 222 E. Harvard Street in Glendale. The program continues until Friday, July 31.

Children will be treated to lunch, stories and other activities at the entrance to the Central Library. This partnership coincides with the annual Summer Reading Program where children of all ages can read and enjoy books during the summer.
