UPDATE: A correction was made by Glendale PD on June 1 regarding the charges. The correction is reflected in the story below.
On May 27, Glendale Police detectives, after a year long investigation, arrested a Glendale man for allegedly performing sexual acts with a minor under the age of 14.
The investigation began in June 2015 when the 13-year-old victim disclosed to a Los Angeles Police Dept. officer about an incident involving her neighbor when she was 11 years old. She reported that her adult neighbor put her in his car and drove somewhere in the area of the Staples Center in Los Angeles and performed sexual acts.
Glendale detectives took over the case and began investigating the suspect, 28-year-old Javier Hernandezparras. At the time of the investigation, the suspect had moved away and his true identity had not been confirmed. The investigation resurfaced in May 2016 when the suspect reportedly began contacting the victim, who is now 14, via Facebook. Detectives began communicating with the suspect, posing as the 14-year-old victim.
On May 27, Hernandezparras made arrangements to meet the victim at Griffith Park to have sex. At about 5:15 p.m., Hernandezparras was spotted arriving at the park in a maroon Mazda. Undercover officers signaled for patrol officers to come in and arrest Hernandezparras. As the patrol vehicles were coming in, Hernandezparras allegedly attempted to flee from officers, making several maneuvers with his vehicle in an attempt to evade. One officer used the patrol car to legally intervene by colliding with the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody with minor injuries sustained from his airbag.
Today, Wednesday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney filed one count of lewd acts with a minor and one count of arranging a meeting with a minor for the purpose of lewd acts.
Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Glendale Police Dept. at (818) 548-4991.
