LCF to Honor Sergeant Joseph Stifter

U.S. Army Sergeant Joseph Stifter, a Saint Francis High School graduate, was killed in Iraq on Jan. 28 when his vehicle rolled over at Al Asad Airbase in Al Anbar Province. He was 30 years old. Sgt. Stifter was deployed with the 1st Infantry Division in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. The City of La Cañada Flintridge will honor Sgt. Stifter on this Memorial Day, May 30 when his name is added to the Memorial Park Memorial Plaque. The Memorial Day ceremony, performed by the La Cañada Girl Scouts, will begin at 9 a.m. at Memorial Park. Sgt. Stifter joined the army in May 2011 and was deployed to Iraq last October. He has been awarded three Army commendation medals, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Combat Action Badge. He is survived by his wife, daughter, mother and father. The City of La Cañada Flintridge honors those who serve their country and remembers those who have made the ultimate sacrifice every Memorial Day with a ceremony at Memorial Park.
