The Glendale Police Dept. responded to the 400 block of E. Harvard Street concerning a mattress that had apparently been set on fire, which resulted in fire damage to a carport that was adjacent to where the mattress was located.

GPD believes there is a connection between this incident and a series of fires set in the area. The department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying those responsible.

There have been 17 fires relating to rubbish left on the sidewalk and alleys in the South Area Command of Glendale, which includes the area of the Ventura (134) freeway not including the central business district, north of Broadway and east of Maryland. The fires occurred during the evening and early morning hours beginning in January.

The arson investigation is ongoing, said Det. Travis Goodreau.

Goodreau encourages anyone with information to contact Glendale Neighborhood Services at (818) 548-3700. Community members can also contact Det. Goodreau with information at (818) 548-3127. The Glendale Crime Stoppers has offered a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest. To leave an anonymous tip, contact (818) 507-7867.

The GPD advises residents to follow these steps to help reduce or prevent future vandalism and small fires:
