BREAKING: Street Racing Leads to Crash

A couple awoke this morning about 8:20 a.m. to what they thought sounded like someone breaking through their door.
“I thought someone was in our house,” said the resident.
What he found was a vehicle, a white Mercedes, had sideswiped his vehicle that was parked in the driveway of his Community Avenue home and then crashed into his home.
The driver later identified as Yarwant Melkonian, 26, of La Crescenta had apparently lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the home.
A Glendale police officer was at Pennsylvania Ave and Foothill Blvd when he witnessed the white Mercedes driving at a high rate of speed and passing other vehicles on the right using the bike lane, said Tahnee Lightfoot, GPD spokeswoman.
It appeared Melkonian was involved in street racing, traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Foothill Boulevard. He turned southbound on Cloud Avenue and the officer lost sight of the vehicle but then found that he had crashed into the home.
Anyone who has any information concerning the incident is asked to contact GPD at (818) 548-4911.
